2) What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is an evidence-based approach where a licensed professional helps clients explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through a collaborative process, clients learn to manage their concerns and difficulties in healthier ways.

3) When to seek help?

A psychologist holds a Master’s degree, MPhil, PDCP, or PhD in psychology and uses evidence-based therapies to help individuals navigate their concerns. A psychiatrist, on the other hand, is a medical doctor (MBBS, MD in psychiatry) who can prescribe medications for mental health conditions.

7) What is the difference between counselling and therapy?

Counselling generally focuses on specific concerns and is short-term, emphasizing practical problem-solving and coping strategies. Therapy (psychotherapy) addresses a broader range of issues, often exploring deeper emotional or behavioral patterns, and usually involves longer-term treatment. Both support mental health in different ways.

8) What is the difference between a clinical and a counselling psychologist in India?

In India, the practice of clinical psychologists is regulated by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), which licenses them to diagnose and treat severe mental health disorders. Counselling psychologists usually work with mild to moderate emotional and psychological concerns.
